He took the guard off…

at least he still has his fingers

This guy calls himself an expert? No blade guard,no safety glasses, no push blocks. It’s one thing if you want to do it this way. I am sure I am guilty of at least one of these things but I have never put out a video showing others how do to do things incorrectly.

im 16 and this the guy is the biggest tool ive ever seen. hes using a jointer like a planer. no glasses no guard omg TOOL

16:19
that is no way to joint

You want to avoid face jointing???? WTF?? And you call yourself a shop teacher? All the planer will do to a wide, cupped board is create a smooth, cupped board. You need to face joint first to establish a reference surface, then edge joint one edge. Then use your planer to do the other side. A table saw is used on the other edge. This guy is a moron because he doesn’t use safety glasses, not because he face jointed!

Unfortunatly I have to agree with the masses, mainly as I am guilty for bad practice and paid the price byt loosing the tip of my index finger to one of these machines. I did exactly what this guy is doing and the planer whipped it out of my hand and… well you know the rest. Needless to say, wear protective equip, use pushsticks and blocks. Please, dont make my mistake.

and long sleeves!!! geez, I always either roll up my sleeves or wear a short sleeve shirt on a table saw and a jointer.

This guy is an idiot, there is no guard on the machine, he uses no push blocks, no safety glasses, can’t wait until he loses a finger.

I hadn’t read any of these comments yet and my first thought is ‘HE’S PUSHING THE WOOD THROUGH WITH HIS BARE HANDS?’

I nearly fainted watching that. Terrifying…

I am sure he isn’t using them because of video, if he used them, you wouldn’t be able to see the demo, ding-dong.
10/28/2009
18:32
wow the jointer isnt even loud
11/29/2009
12:51
NEVER USE YOUR BARE HANDS LIKE THAT!!! A “push block” is absolutely necessary for these procedures!

I am curious, do you all work for OSHA or are you just neutered males? Either way you are a product of a failed system.
Grow up and stop worrying, this video won’t cause you to hurt your finely manicured nails and lotiony hands.

you have a planer in the background y not use that?
01/13/2010
05:03
and on another note, you can lose a finger very easily doing that

This is an very dangerous video. Someone learning to use a jointer should go elsewhere for advice. This guy is likely to lose a hand or finger. There’s no guard on his machine. He’s using his bare hand and should be using Push Blocks. I didn’t hear a word about going with the grain either. Way too many holes in these ‘instructions’ to list here.

Expert?????? Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

i think that cutter would do a bit more than break a couple nails sir. the way he did it is just dangerous, especially for an instructional video. and let me guess, you’re probably a seasoned carpenter yourself and you have been doing it like this for years without any consequences? cuz i can somehow see that coming. well if so, your time will come and you may just get hit by a car

“And be sure to watch my 2nd video, “How to Remove All the Flesh From the Palm of Your Hands” “.
06/23/2010
16:13
He should be using a pushblock for that, not his bare hands, especially if he is doing an instructional video.

They’ll be calling this guy “stubby” one day.
